Thanks dad, thanks Rick
11 July 2024 marks 30 years since I lost my dad. It’s also the birthday of the character in the novel I started to write immediately afterwards. I’m now, for various reasons, rewriting that novel, One of The Few, and I feel the need today to commemorate both my dad and Rick, my character.
The group behind Just Write has encouraged me through the years in all my written work, and I just wanted to say – don’t hide away your talent and your ideas and your inspirations as some of us have a tendency to do in trying to balance our lives, deprioritising the things that tug at your soul.
In my case, my dad, and the story I am intent on telling. This post is a rare show of feeling from me, but I am going to have to get used to that if I want to promote the novel when it’s finished (by the end of this year). Thanks dad, thanks Rick, and thanks Just Write and all you writers out there who get what I’m saying.
