Jean Burnett, also writing as Fran Kempton, lives near Bath and consequently feels obliged to write about Jane Austen.
Who Needs Mr Darcy? (published as The Bad Miss Bennet in the USA) was published by Little Brown.
The Bad Miss Bennet Abroad (now re-published as Scandal in the Sun) was published by Canelo.
Her most recent novel is a cosy crime mystery A Brush with Death (Malago Press, 2025).
She has also published a travel memoir, Vagabond Shoes, (winner of the book prize at the
Winchester Writers’ Conference) and compiled A Victorian Lady in the Himalayas from original diaries.
As Fran Kempton, she published The Devil’s Tune, the first book in an Italian trilogy, and is currently writing the second book about the artist Artemisia Gentileschi.
Jean has worked as a journalist and advertising copywriter. She holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Wales (Cardiff). She is divorced with a grownup family and loves music, chocolate, and travel when she can afford it.
